Appletons' Annual Cyclopaedia and Register of Important Events was the later title of an annual series published by D. Appleton and Co. It was sold as an annual supplement to their American Cyclopaedia. (There is a Wikipedia article about this serial.)
The first volume published as Appletons' Annual Cyclopaedia and Register of Important Events covered the year 1875, and was originally published in 1876. It continued the volume numbering of The American Annual Cyclopaedia, a predecessor title covering years back to 1861. A new series began the following year, published under both that specific series numbering and a "whole series" numbering. A third series began in 1896. The last volume covered 1902. Listings below are shown under the year they cover, which pre-dates the year of publication. Some volumes were also reprinted in later years.
