Table key:

• ISSN: One of the ISSNs associated with the serial, usually the first or the linking ISSN.
• Title: The title of the serial, usually as it is given in the provider's data file. Links, when available, generally go to the provider's online offering of the serial.
• Coverage: The start and end years of the serial issues that are offered by the provider. This might not always be all the years of the serial. There also may be gaps in the provider's coverage in some cases.
• Wikidata: The Wikidata identifier for the serial, when available and known. Links go to the Wikidata record with that identifier. That record often includes more data about the serial, as well as links to Wikipedia articles on the serial in various languages.
• First renewal: A link to a copyright information page on that serial, when available. The link may show the year of the first filed and active issue or contribution renewal noted on that page. This year is intended as a brief summary, and not as a claim that all issues prior to that year (or all issues when "None" or "N/A" appear) are in the public domain. (See our guide "Determining copyright status of serial issues" for information on how to determine whether a serial issue of interest is in the public domain, and the various complications and pitfalls that need to be taken into account.) Some notations you may see with the link include:
  • All: Used when the first issue in the provider's coverage range is 1964 or later, so that all issue copyrights were automatically renewed (or are otherwise still active).
  • N/A: Used when the provider's coverage ends before 1931, or when the serial is known to be uncopyrightable (as some US government publications are). Any copyrights secured before 1931 have now expired in the United States. Note that in some US jurisdictions, some serials published abroad before 1931, and not published in the US before then, may have copyrights that are still active. (See this note for more details.) Also, copyrights outside the US may have different durations.
  • None: Used when there were no active issue or contribution copyright renewals filed prior to 1964. Copyrights from 1964 or later renew automatically, though, and are often not noted in our information pages, even though they remain active.
  • Pending: Used when someone has submitted or requested copyright information on a serial, but the table is not yet updated to reflect that. It will change from "Pending" once someone in the Penn Libraries has reviewed the submission or request, and confirmed the relevant copyright information. (The "Pending" notation is added to the web pages based on a real-time query. It is also used in the downloadable spreadsheets, but there it is based on the status at the time the table was last generated, so it might not be fully up to date on the spreadsheets.)
  • See record: Used when an active issue or contribution renewal is recorded, but not in a form that our system can easily parse.
  • Unknown: Used when we do not yet have renewal data available for the serial. You can use the "Contact us" link in the row for a serial of interest to you to let us know if you have or would like data for it.
  • *: Indicates there are additional notes on the copyright information page that may be important to determine the serial's copyright. At present, it may also be used when the page links to predecessor, successor, or related serials that may have renewals of their own.
• Free issues: A link to a listing of open access and other freely available complete issues or volumes of the serial, as recorded at The Online Books Page. The years shown with the link are the years of coverage there. The Online Books Page coverage can be less than, or more than, the coverage shown by the provider, for various reasons (including differing definitions of the serial's extent). We also may not yet know of all available issues. Some notations you may see with the years include:
  • -||-: Indicates there are known gaps of a year or more in the coverage listed on The Online Books Page. (Shorter gaps of less than a year are not noted. For example, "1916-||-1990" means a range of years from 1916 to 1990, with gaps, "1916-1990" indicates no known gaps of a year or more.)
  • +: Indicates we know of additional issues or volumes of related serials (including predecessors and successors) available freely online as well. To find these, follow the link and look for "Related Resources" on the linked information page.
  • Available: Indicates that free issues are available from the provider via the supplied link, but we do not yet have a listing with coverage dates for it on The Online Books Page.
  • Predecessor: Indicates that, while we do not know of free online issues for this exact title, we know of (and link to) free online issues of predecessor titles (which might or might not also be covered by the provider).
• More Info?: A link where you can ask for, or provide, more information about the serial, including copyright information and free online issue availability. You can also use this link to inform us of any errors or bad links.
